Educational Qualifications: • A Degree in Naval Architecture from a recognised university • Higher National certificate in Naval Architecture (in the absence of candidates with the above qualification) • A degree in mechanical Engineering of a recognised University (in the absence of candidates with the above qualifications) Experience Required: For Degree in Naval Architecture: Not less than three years in the basic design, construction and maintenance of floating crafts in shipyards recognised by the Mercantile Marine Department. For Higher National certificate: Not less than seven years in the basic design, construction and maintenance of floating crafts in shipyards recognised by the Mercantile Marine Department. For Degree in Mechanical Engineering: Five years experience in basic design, construction and maintenance of floating crafts in shipyards recognised by the Mercantile Marine Department. Kerala PSC gives the age limit as a range of birth dates, for example “18–36: only candidates born between 02.01.1989 and 01.01.2007 (both dates included)”. Ages are counted on 1 January of the recruitment year, so an upper age of 36 in 2025 means you must be born on or after 2 January 1989. Relaxations move that earliest date back.
With relaxations, the upper age cannot go beyond 50.

Some notifications say relaxations do not apply, and the checker then uses the range as printed. By-transfer posts, special recruitments, NCA notifications and rules for widows are flagged with “Check the notification” instead of a verdict. The qualification guide compares levels only, not subjects. Always confirm in the official notification before you apply.
